Is Ortlieb worth?
We have most definitely tested the Ortliebs now, they have done at least 8000kms over two years. Based on this, we both agree wholeheartedly that they have been well worth the expense. We both chose the Ortlieb Sport-Packer Plus Bike Panniers from Bike24 in granite black for our rear panniers.

You can attach your Carradice saddlebag directly to your saddle and seatpost with the straps on the forward side of the bag. But when you want to remove the bag from the bike, you either have to pull the seatpost out of the frame, or unbuckle the bag from the saddle and post.

Front panniers tend to be smaller, and for good reason: whatever weight you’re carrying on the front wheel will feed directly into the steering and handling of your bike. Lighter is therefore better, particularly on rough roads. A typical front pannier might have a 10–15 litre capacity (ie: 20–30 litres per pair).

The secret lies in its simplicity. The top end of the pannier or drybag is tightened by means of pulling on the two plastic buckles; then it is rolled at least three times before housing and buckle are closed.
Do panniers need to be balanced?
Nonetheless, if the pannier is reasonably loaded, the pulling effect wouldn’t be as noticeable when riding conservatively. But if you plan to carry heavier loads, it’s better to do so with two panniers or a more symmetrical system to balance the load.
Can you ride with one pannier?
Riding with just one pannier bag is more efficient for normal city commuting because you then only have to remove and carry off one single bag. Some people do find it a little unbalanced when the bag is really heavy, but, most people don’t notice the difference at all.
