Can you mix synthetic 134a with regular 134a?
A: No can do. The system will have to be evacuated properly, to remove any oil and any water or humidity that got in. Then you can add the correct amount of oil and refrigerant, in this case R134a. Modern a/c systems don’t use very much refrigerant, and they’re pretty intolerant of being overcharged.
Can you recharge your AC yourself?
Topping off a car ac system can usually put you back in the deep freeze. That’s a job you can do yourself if your vehicle was made after 1993 and is filled with R-134a refrigerant (check the label under the hood or the specifications section of your owner’s manual to be sure).
What can I do with leftover refrigerant?
In general, if the refrigerant is not contaminated it can be recycled and reused. You can typically take the noncontaminated refrigerant back to the wholesaler for exchange. If the refrigerant is contaminated, you’ll need to send it to a reclamation facility.
