Is Tokarev reliable?
The pistol is reliable and as accurate as any Tokarev, and I can get 3.5-inch five-shot groups at 25 yards. However, I am not completely happy with a couple of the modifications. The pistol has a magazine safety that prevents the pistol from firing if the magazine is removed, and the safety is a lever on the slide.

It’s sturdy, simple, and reliable. The true TT-33 had no safety but otherwise was a Browning patent firearm like the Colt 1811. However the 7.65 cartridge added to its reliability as you are stuffing the smaller bullet diameter into the larger case diameter as a cartridge feeds into the chamber.

Find the Serial number on the slide, just below the Chinese lettering. The first two digits should be added to 1953 to find the year of manufacture. In the photo below, the original serial number is 22019840. So by adding 22 to 1953 means this Tokarev was manufactured in 1975.

The Tokarev’s rear sight belongs on a rifle. A very basic rifle. An accuracy-obsessed American owner could get his gunsmith to swap out the pistol ‘s sights for something more useful (i.e. anything), but that would look stupid and invite accusations of cultural insensitivity.
