Is ViewRanger being discontinued?
Update 26th November 2021 Soon the ViewRanger service will be discontinued. We currently expect to switch off access to the ViewRanger app and website at the end of February 2022. You can start accessing maps and data through the Outdooractive app and website now by following the steps in this email.
What is ViewRanger app?
ViewRanger is a solid app for outdoor adventurers who want offline maps and crave interactive features. Taking the outdoors with you, even without a data signal.
What has happened to ViewRanger?
ViewRanger is now part of the Outdooractive family. The ViewRanger and Outdooractive teams are working together on one amazing platform. All improvements, new maps, new features etc. will be available on the combined Outdooractive platform and app. The ViewRanger app and web site are being switched off on 1st March.
Which is better OS maps or ViewRanger?
OS Maps only permits you to either follow a route or record a route you cannot do both at the same time unless you use two devices. ViewRanger allows you to record and follow a track simultaneously – great if you deviate from your intended route and want to preserve it for the future.

On OS maps, when planning a route on a PC, the route ‘snaps’ to tracks and paths, making route creation must faster. Viewranger doesn’t. You can view the Viewranger map on an Apple watch, so you can see where you are on the map on your watch.

Outdooractive is a GPS app for your phone focusing on European content but spreading into North America as well. The app is free to download on any iOS and Android phones and there are paid Pro and Pro+ versions for download. The website can be used to view routes and make your own as well.
