What are directional arrows?
Point drivers in the correct direction on roadways and in parking lots with arrow signs. Arrow signs emphasize the direction drivers should travel on your street or in your parking lot.
What is North arrow?

What do you think causes the arrow to change its direction?
The arrow looks like it has changed direction because of something called refraction. Refraction happens when light passes through one transparent (clear) thing into another, in this case, from air through the glass and water. This is sometimes called the bending of light.
Why does an arrow change direction in a glass of water?
Instead of spreading out in straight lines, the light changes direction both when it enters and leaves the glass of water. This change of direction is called refraction and it happens because the light slows down as it enters the glass and speeds up again as it leaves.
Why is north arrow important?
A north arrow maintains a connection to a map frame and indicates the orientation of the map inside the frame. When the map rotates, the north arrow element rotates with it.
How do you find the north arrow?
On a paper or PDF electronic copy of a map or plan, the north arrow is usually located toward the top of the drawing in one of the corners.
How does optical inversion work?
It is an optical illusion, called refraction. Light only bends when it passes from a substance of one density into a substance of a different density—in this case from air to water. Next, trying seeing how the concave (turning inwards) surface of a spoon reflects the image upside down.
Why does a pencil look bent in water?
As you sight at the portion of the pencil that was submerged in the water, light travels from water to air (or from water to glass to air). This light ray changes medium and subsequently undergoes refraction. As a result, the image of the pencil appears to be broken.
