What does a Polybush do?
Polybushes are a polyurethane replacement for the standard rubber bush. Its properties are stiffer then rubber and allow less flex. They are also less susceptible to heat, meaning that the bush is mounted near the engine, exhaust or brakes that they will stay firm rather than becoming soft like a standard rubber bush.
How long do Poly bushes last?
Rubber bushings require no maintenance, whereas poly bushings might require lubrication after around 5 years.
How do you fit Polybush?
Apply some washing up liquid to the outside of the bush to ease fitting. Press the polyurethane bush into the arm at an angle so one part of the lip is already in the bore of the arm, when the bush is then pushed in the rest of the lip will follow. Make sure the lip has fully popped out the other side of the arm.
Which is better rubber or polyurethane?
Rubber is more effective in absorbing vibrations than polyurethane. That’s why the material is used for making tires, but also for seals, gaskets, and bushings.
Do poly bushes need grease?
Polyurethane should only be lubricated with one specific type of grease to insure long bushing life, and squeak-free performance, Silicone based synthetic water-proof grease.
Should you grease poly bushes?
There isn’t much that will degrade or otherwise harm polyurethane bushings, but enough friction on anything without the proper lubrication can damage it.
Do Powerflex bushes come with grease?
Both Strongflex and Powerflex polybushes usually come with a very very thick and sticky white grease (probably lithium as Paddy OPlastic says), why dont you contact either company and ask to buy some grease or if they can recommend what grease to use, assuming you can actually get it between the bush and the wishbone.
Does polyurethane last longer than rubber?
Benefits of Polyurethane Polyurethane typically lasts longer than rubber, especially in applications where it’s constantly stretched or otherwise exposed to stress. Both rubber and polyurethane are elastic and flexible.
What is urethane rubber?
Exclusively used in industrial production applications, urethane is a family of rubbers and plastics materials that are used for making molds. Urethane rubber is widely known for its tough properties, being abrasion-resistant, economical, relatively simple to mix and apply, and flexible once it is formed into a mold.
