What is a distinction in ballet?
Dancers are given scores in various areas such as timing, musicality, alignment, etc. Points are added together for a total out of 100. Grades are as follows: 75-100 points = Distinction (gold); 55-74 points = Merit (silver); 40-54 points = Pass (bronze).
How are RAD ballet exams marked?
For RAD graded exams, candidates will have an overall mark of Pass, Merit or Distinction and will receive a bronze, silver or gold medal accordingly; for the RAD Class Award candidates recieve a Pass and an enamel medal. The exams are now SQA accreditted and Higher or Vocational Grades also carry UCAS points.

I know that the RAD website shows proportions of distinctions, merits etc. but understandably it doesn’t show whether those distictions are marks of 76 or 95. My DDs go to a dance school where RAD Ballet exam marks are nearly all distinctions with just a smattering of high merits.
