What is Liquitex gel medium used for?
Gel Medium can be used as a glue by brushing it onto the surface of paper or a painting, then adhering mixed media bits and pieces to it. Of course, you might want to coat the bits and pieces and stick them on. You can mix in water for some applications where you want more manipulation.

Gels are basically thick, while mediums are thin and pourable. Acrylic binder is naturally very thin and pourable. Most people assume acrylic is naturally thick – but it’s not. The thin quality of acrylic or polymer is not made by adding water or diluting.
What is the difference between gesso and gel medium?
Gel medium on paper makes it more water-resistant than clear gesso, so the watercolor paint will dry and react a bit as it would on yupo paper, as paper painted over with gesso is more reminiscent of hot press paper.

How do you make gel medium?
To begin, create a mixture of 60 percent oil and 40 percent turpentine. As layers of paint are built up over one another, gradually reduce the percentage of turpentine. This will increase the drying time of the paint, but it will give the gel medium more body as you build the layers of paint.
How do you use Liquitex Pouring Medium?
Pouring
- Mix one heaped tablespoon of Soft Body Acrylic with one cup of Liquitex Pouring Medium in a large bucket or bowl.
- Use a palette knife to gently and smoothly mix the color and medium – blend gently to avoid making bubbles and let it sit for 10 minutes for any to disappear.
