How do you assess a nose?
Steps to palpate the nose and sinuses include:
- With your thumb, gently palpate one sinus at a time. Use a circular motion to palpate.
- Palpate the nose for airflow/patency.
- Gently palpate the external nose if trauma/injury or lesions are present.

What separates the nose into two sections?
The nasal septum is the cartilage and bone in your nose. The septum divides the nasal cavity (inside your nose) into a right and left side.
How does sinus look like?
They’re lined with soft, pink tissue called mucosa. Normally, the sinuses are empty except for a thin layer of mucus. The inside of the nose has ridges called turbinates. Normally these structures help humidify and filter air.
