What is the best trap dye?
Andy Stoe’s Speed Dip is the most popular of the trap dyes and is sold by most trapping supply dealers. Speed Dip is mixed with lantern fuel or mineral spirits (gasoline also works). The fuel dilutes the concentrated dip to the required consistency and helps it properly adhere to traps.
How long does it take for speed dip to dry?

This protective film puts a hard protective coat on the trap to keep it from rusting. Depending on humidity the dip will dry in 2 – 3 days. It is suggested that you do this on days with low humidity and dip the traps 1-2 months in advance if you are using them for landy trapping.

When using mineral spirits, mix 2 parts to one part KBL Quick Dye. Traps/snares should be degreased and allowed to rust slightly before dipping with KBL Quick Dye. Traps should be dipped (for 20-30 seconds) and hung to dry in warm weather (65 degrees or warmer). KBL Quick Dye will coat best during hot days.

Can you reuse trap dye?
I typically store the leftover dye in 1 gallon plastic jugs. The following year when I’m ready to dye traps again, I reuse the dye from the jugs, and sometimes I have to make a little more with some additional sumac buds. But overall, it can be reused from year to year.
How long should you boil traps?
Boil traps (with anchor system attached) in the dye for one hour, pull them out and hang them outside to completely dry. I like to use Logwood Trap Dye, and when you use this, the traps should come out looking black.
How do you rust a trap overnight?
You are going to want solution somewhere around 3/4 water to 1/4 vinegar or at least that is what I do. Leave them in there for 24 hrs. Then take them out.
