What happens if a magneto fails?
The beauty of a magneto is its simplicity. When one fails, it’s not dramatic, and will not result in a catastrophic engine failure unless both mags shoot craps at the same time. If that happens, the engine will stop running or might run rough (missing on one or more cylinders).
What two tests may be performed on magneto capacitors?
We carry out three tests on magneto condensers using modern digital electronic test meters.
- 1: Capacitance test. Easily carried out using a digital capacitance meter.
- 2: Insulation test. Again easily carried out using a digital insulation meter.
- 3: Charge test. This follows on from the insulation test.
Can you fly on one magneto?
Never Leave on One No matter what you do at this point, don’t be tempted to fly on only one magneto. Sure, the airplane will probably fly that way. You’d have to tweak the mixture, and accept less power from the engine, but it would run—as it is designed to when a magneto fails.
What is a Bendix Magneto repair kit?
These magneto repair kits are designed to simplify the Bendix magneto overhaul process by providing all of the commonly needed overhaul parts in one convenient kit.
How many contact assembly kits are in the Bendix-200 repair kit?
*The Repair Kit and Deluxe Repair Kit for the Bendix -200, -201, and -202 Series Magnetos contain two sets of Contact Assembly Kits.
What to do if your Magneto is not working?
If the impulse coupling is the problem, replace the impulse coupling. If the magneto is not timed correctly with the engine it will run rough or will not start. Remove the retaining nut from the end of the magneto and remove the gear.
Do the magnetos come with instructions for overhauling?
The kit does not come with instructions and we do not have any overhaul manuals for magnetos. You may want to consult with your A&P to locate a maintenance manual. This info may even be in your aircraft maintenance manual.
