How many lengths of feather edge do I need?
To work out how many feather edge is required you need to divide the total length of the fence by the width of the feather edge minus the overlap. The ovelap will need to be about 1″ (25mm), so deduct this from the width of the feather edge, I:E 150mm – 25mm = 125mm.

Featheredge boards require a minimum overlap of about 10-15mm, as they can shrink due to climate. Feather edge boards should be fixed with a nail in the centre, if 2 nails are used into each rail they can split as the timber shrinks.

- Dig the hole for the 1st post.
- Run a line from the first post to the end of the run of fencing, stretching it taut.
- Set the second post in the hole, but don’t backfill it.
- Fit the Arris Rail at this point and hammer them in to get a good fit using a rubber mallet.

How much support do I need for my feather edge cladding?
