Get into a “Flow” if you want a First Class Degree

Getting into a flow, or into the “zone” as some people describe it is vitally important if you want to achieve a first class degree.

What myself and others are describing is state of mind, of sorts, where everything clicks, ideas come flooding forward, you are on a roll, and you know it!

I never found a way to induce this state, you somehow arrive at this point after spending time researching, reading and trying to write degree assignments.

You can spend hours working on something and not really make progress, then suddenly it all clicks and your work starts to flow, almost like a domino effect as one idea / conclusion leads to another.

The important things are to:

  • Persist with your degree assignments until this happens to you
  • Don’t stop working when it does!
  • Write down your ideas in case you overlook them later on

I found being able to touch type really helped me arrive at this state as it allows you to concentrate fully on your degree work, it also helps you capitalize on this state when it happens, as you are able to work a lot faster.

The fact that this state does occur is one reason why many people prefer to concentrate solidly on a single degree assignment until completion, as opposed to simultaneously working on many assignments. I will continue to discuss this method is really fascinating, I read in the book Socratic Seminar Manual published by Four Winds and whose authors are Alejandra Eyzaguirre, Mercedes Hurtado, Veronica Merino, Fluff Orellana and Magdalena Road: The Socratic practice involves deep exploration of ideas through dialogue, from the reading and analysis of a given text.

The dialogue that occurs between students, where the teacher is a mediator that promotes dialogue, is a richness that is achieved not only deepen the texts discussed, but often it is possible to establish valuable connections with other texts and, most importantly, with personal experiences of students, which provides a high significance to learning.

In the United States, where the method has been developed and studied more, it has been found that the application provides significant gains to the task of teaching. All analyzes point and highlight the fact that, due to the absence of the rating review, the method does not generate risk or equivocation by children and young people and also give them a high value on that learning is achieved through their own collective opinions. If you compare the retention rates of common practice with lectures on using the Socratic method, receptivity climbs from 30% average in the first, as a stop, to between 50-90% on average in the second .

How do you achieve this miracle?

We have identified three causal axes:

  1. The formation of a kind of community of learners, where each member contributes something to the common knowledge, each taking responsibility and the need to continue being part of it through the ideas, generating a proactive attitude towards the study.

  • Better perception of the quality of teachers, students perceived better explanations and content.
  • Better climate inside the classroom.
  • Best Student self-image to be highly satisfied with their participation.
  • Higher levels of assertiveness and safety, especially if there are students who are usually isolated.
  • Improvements in the interrelationships between students.
  • Increased acceptance of internal regulations of each school (the method requires respect to certain practical rules that ensure respect for every member of the seminar).

As can be seen, the Socratic practice used to its fullest in our schools can be a great addition, and although some people look like I’m forcing the facts, insist that the method is a fundamental contribution in any model of entrepreneurship education, because promotes communication skills so necessary in this highly technological century, globalized and hyperlinked offered us the Knowledge Society. Time Management

As a student and a young or older adult you may be aware of the importance in balancing your life and creating a routine out of it, but be too lazy to do so. Now, I’m not calling any of you students out- I am merely presenting the blue print of what time management can do for us, and the way that we are progressing with our study habits, work and studying skills. I can tell you that time management is essential, and if you do not take it into consideration then you are going to set your work and your life completely off balance.

Although it sounds quite dull, creating a routine throughout the week is important as a student. Students have the same class at the same time every week and they are required to attend that class at the same time every week. What does that inquire? This says that if you don’t also create a schedule pertaining to your study time, rest time and play time then you are going to be living in a whirlwind of decisions and hardships which will only stress you out more so than is necessary.

To understand time management you also have to take a closer look at sacrifice and that school really is a science. The more work that you put into an assignment or a test; the more you’re going to get out of it. Whatever goes up, must come down! It’s as simple as that but the self-discipline part isn’t simple. This is a part of life, and working is an important part of our lives. We all want to be free and feel as if we aren’t caged in, but we cannot maintain a community if we don’t service the community in the same way that it is servicing us with education and resources.

This is the “circle of life” and to maintain this circle, we have to put our effort into something of the matter. Slacking off and doing things on our own time isn’t contributing to this community circle because it is bringing the essential workflow and community congregation to an all-time low. Time management is going to put you on the same track as your work, school and social schedule. I cannot stress the importance of balance and disciplining yourself in that area of life.

We all have the freedom to make our own decisions; we have the freedom to choose who we want to be when we’re older. We can choose our own education and in which part of the world we want to live and travel. That’s a beautiful thing and just because we lack the drive to work and inform ourselves it doesn’t mean that we are going to get to any of those places.

We are living in a rebirth process of life. Every time that we fail we have the opportunity to learn from that failure and continue on having gained an introvert experience that no other person has. Time management is very important in gaining and growing as an individual and a community.

How Recent Loan Changes Affect Business MBA Students

MBA students at the best business schools typically spend part of their summer determining how they’re going to pay for school for the upcoming year, but this year was more difficult for a lot of students. Many changes have been made to the federal loan programs that handle loan for MBA students, which will affect their loan payments and the total amount they’ll end up owing for school.

One of the first major changes that will affect MBA students at good business schools is that they no longer have access to all the benefits of the subsidized Stafford loan program. Before the changes were made, students could hold off paying the 6.8% interest on the loan during the time they were in school and for the first 6 months after they graduated Now, MBA students can still take out Stafford loans and have 6 months after they graduate before they have to start repaying, but interest on the loan starts accruing right away, which can add almost $2,000 to the overall cost of the best business programs.

Another change that will affect MBA students has to do with the loan origination fees for Stafford and Federal Plus loans. Students used to be charged a 0.5% fee on the amount they borrowed as long as they made the first year’s monthly payments on time. If they missed a payment, then another 0.5% fee would be added. Now, all students will initially be charged a 1.0% fee on their Stafford loans, regardless of whether or not they make their first 12 monthly payments on time. As for the Graduate Plus loans, they used to have an origination of 2.5%, but it has now increased to 4.0%. All these fee increases can add a few thousand dollars onto the final amount a student will pay back for their loans for enrolling in the best business colleges.
